Charney Hall and Field Trust (CHAFT)

The Charney Hall and Field Trust (CHAFT) is an unincorporated charity, registered with the Charity Commission (No. 294765).

Originally constituted as a Village Hall Committee, the charity first took on the ownership and management of the Village Hall from the Parish Council in June 1988. Its remit was extended further in August 2002 to take on the ownership and management of the village playing field (Charney Field). The trust’s governing document thus comprises the two Schemes drawn up in 1988 and 2002.

The charity comprises a number of trustees all of whom are residents of Charney Bassett. Some are elected at the AGM, some are appointed by outside organisations and some can be co-opted. The officers of the Trust (Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary) are elected by the trustees at their first meeting after the AGM.

The Parish Council appoints two members to serve on CHAFT: the Parochial Church Council appoints one. The Parish Council’s involvement with the charity is otherwise limited to that of a ‘Custodian Trustee’ i.e. it holds the title deeds to the two properties on behalf of the trustees.
